Celebrate Leap Year with authors Jennifer Longo and Erin Dealey, who know all about leaps of faith! Friends from way back (they met through the Sugarloaf Theater community) they're joining us on Saturday, February 29th from 4-6 pm to share their latest books. One, a Young Adult novel about a girl aging out of foster care, the other a picture book about a girl dreaming of a better world, their stories share a sense of hope and possibility.
Longo's What I Carry follows Muir, who has grown up in foster care and lived in many houses. If she's learned one thing, it is to pack light. Toothbrush? Yes. Socks? Yes. Emotional attachment to friends, foster families, a boyfriend? Nope! She just has one year left before she ages out of the system. One year to avoid anything - or anyone - that could get in her way. Then she meets Francine. Kira. Sean. And everything changes.
Dealey's Snow Globe Wishes takes place as the worst snow storm of the year rolls in and a family hunkers down for the night. A little girl makes a wish on a snowglobe and, in the morning, the sun rises on a winter wonderland - beckoning all outside. What if, on this snow-filled day, families shake their busy lives and everyone goes out to play?
Jennifer Longo spent years acting, playwriting, working as a literary assistant at San Francisco's Magic Theatre and as an elementary school librarian before writing fiction. (You might have read her amazing YA novels, Six Feet Over It and Up to This Pointe). Language arts and theater instructor Erin Dealey turned her hand to children's books to create the magical and marvelous books Babies Come from Airports, Deck the Walls, Goldie Locks Has Chicken Pox, Grandma's Favorite, Grandpa's Favorite, K is for Kindergarten, and Little Bo Peep Can't Get to Sleep, in addition to her wonderful Snow Globe Wishes.
Join us to meet the authors!
